Upcoming Show - "Views of Drew"

Moody Day - Drew Harbour (diptych)
Oil on Canvas
24 x 60 inches

I live near Drew Harbour on Quadra Island and I pass by this body of water almost daily. It is always a treat to look at the changing moods of this place. In August, friend and I have a show of our work reflecting (pun intended) our interpretations of Drew Harbour. My paintings will focus on reflections in the water, anchored at the top of the work by the strip of Rebecca Spit.

The Estuary

30 x 48 in.
Oil on Canvas

A trip by the Comox Estuary offered inspiration for this piece. This painting has a real sense of seasonal change to me. The work has more "land" in it than my Water Series paintings have usually had - this seems to be a trend in my work at the moment. We will see where it goes...

Bird Ballet

Birds are beautiful - in so many ways.... This video is a wonderful glimpse of something called murmuration - thousands of birds dancing in the sky... Click on the link and enjoy...

"Burmis Lake" receives recognition...

Burmis Lake
36 x 36 in.

I just opened my latest e-issue of Canadian Brushstroke Magazine (www.brushstrokemagazine.com) and found that this painting had been chosen as a finalist in their Water theme competition. I rarely enter these kind of competitions, so it was fun to discover that this work had received this recognition.

More Ravens...

"I've Got Your Back"
Mixed Waterbased Media
14 x 18 inches

I love painting ravens! This pair posed for my camera most obligingly, so I have lots of reference photos of them being ravens. The posture, with the fluffed-up head feathers and "baggy pants" is very expressive. It indicates territoriality and dominance. Ravens use body posture for very complex communication - which is one of the reasons they are so fun to watch - and to paint!
